Long-range weather forecast system

The WDT provides state-of-the-art long-range weather forecast systems for days 1 – 15 and days 16-30 forecasts.

Days 1-15 Forecasting

Days 1 – 15 forecasts provided by WDT are based on internally and externally developed model/non-model forecast techniques and comprise of the following:

  • Daily issued maps of 1-5, 6-10 and 11-15 days temperature anomaly forecasts;
  • Week 1 and week 2 global hazards;
  • Supporting meteorological discussions;
  • Based on GSDM parameter output regional objective probability shifts;
  • Based on internal forecast reasoning regional subjective probability shifts;
  • Short-term forecast support that starts with Days 1-4 proactive temperature volatility alerting and Days 5-7 quantitative hourly forecasting.

Days 16-30 Forecasting

Provided by WDT days 16-30 forecasts represent state of the science proprietary long-range weather predictions for 16-30 days and the upcoming season. The WDT long-range weather forecast system is based on a variety of expert methodologies and internally designed systems (including proprietary version of the GSDM framework), global models, industry-experienced analysis as well as expert review and quality checking.

Long-range 16-30 days forecasts comprise of the following:

  • Issued two times a week maps of 16-30 days temperature anomaly forecasts;
  • Issued once per week the front season temperature anomaly forecasts based on the output of the Canonical Correlation Analysis Model;
  • Supporting meteorological discussions;
  • Quantitative temperature forecasts for cities and regions, including CDDs and HDDs.
