Automated Bird Control Radar Systems and Aircraft Birdstrike Avoidance Radars

Due to aircraft damage and loss, caused by bird-aircraft strikes, commercial and military aviation loses huge amounts of money every year, not to mention a serious safety hazard to passengers and pilots. MERLIN detect and deter bird control radar system is one of the most famous, advanced and proven bird control radar systems, specially designed for permanent monitoring of bird control zones with automatic activation of bird deterrent devices in order to prevent birds from getting into restricted areas near commercial airports and military airfields, bombing and training ranges. Multiple airports in different countries as well as NASA and USAF use MERLIN Avian Radar System technology as the main solution for bird-aircraft strike hazard management, as it is a proven tool for monitoring and detecting hazardous bird activity around airfields. The Merlin software provides the possibility to define various control zones and trigger deterrent devices in case any bird enters the control area.
MERLIN detect and deter bird control radar system is available on a turnkey basis. It includes the bird control radar unit, consisting of radar sensor and tower, software package, processor equipment and equipment enclosure, as well as deterrent devices, complete installation, system integration, training and long-time support by the team of specialists with extensive backgrounds and experience. The MERLIN bird control radar can be installed independently or integrated with already existing deterrent systems.
To provide effective bird detection and deterrence in different weather conditions, MERLIN systems are available in low and high radar power configurations with both X- and solid state S-band Doppler radar sensors. All equipment can be used even in extreme environments, nevertheless providing exceptionally high reliability. All MERLIN systems are fully networkable and remote controllable.
The MERLIN technology is modular, upgradable and expandable, which means that additional sensor coverages can be added much later than the initial installation of the base system. All components of the system are good example of high reliability with low maintenance costs.
DeTect has also introduced application of the Long Range Bioacoustic Units (LRBU) for control and hazing of birds. Originally developed for the purposes of military force protection and security, nowadays the LRBU is used for projecting a controlled beam of noise at the distance of around 2 km with 80 decibels in volume to haze birds in a controlled manner. The LRBU technology can be integrated with a MERLIN Avian Radar System. The MERLIN technology has undergone various tests and proved to be the most advanced and widely-used bird control radar and state-of-the-art technology used for birdstrike risk management both for military airfields and commercial airports.
